What is Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM)?

For most adults, gambling is a source of entertainment, a chance to socialize with others in a fun, safe and exciting atmosphere – and perhaps, to win some money. For some, gambling can become problematic.

Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) is a grassroots campaign where groups across America hold conferences, air Public Service Announcements, provide counselor trainings, host health screening days, run social media campaigns and many other activities to increase public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services.

Who is at risk for Problem Gambling?

Anyone who gambles can develop problems. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the risks and to gamble in a responsible way, if you choose to gamble. When gambling behavior interferes with finances, relationships and the workplace, a serious problem already exists.

  • Gambling results in withdrawal from family and friends.
  • Stopping or cutting back seems impossible.
